Ramrod

The Ramrod by Brett Sims is a multi-stage obstacle that combines swing control, precision placement, and technical traversal into one unique challenge. Athletes must first deploy the obstacle, then conquer it. 

Suspended from straps, the Ramrod features handlebars on one end and a steel square receiver on the other, connected by a detachable 8' pipe fitted with eight 1' vinyl-covered rotating barrels. The challenge begins by swinging the Ramrod forward and backward from the handlebars, building enough momentum to hook the steel square onto a compatible catch obstacle such as a Bear Trap or Skyhook (sold separately). Successfully landing the catch stabilizes the Ramrod and transforms it into a traversable obstacle.

With the Ramrod secured in place, athletes must scale the length of the pipe using the rotating vinyl-covered barrels. The freely spinning barrels constantly test grip strength, body tension, and coordination, making the traverse just as demanding as the setup. Once they reach the end, competitors transfer seamlessly to the next obstacle, creating a continuous, flowing movement sequence.

The Ramrod includes four suspension straps: two 24" straps and two 48" straps. For proper setup, the shorter straps attach to the steel square end while the longer straps attach to the handlebar end, creating a slight angle when suspended. This angled configuration adds an extra layer of difficulty and helps position the obstacle for the initial swing and catch.
